The 20th of August saw the second discussion take place at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB). The topic: Resolving South Africa’s structural economic impediments to achieve a higher growth trajectory.
This was a half-day event, beginning with four different position papers being presented by their academic authors – one of which, Professor Mohammed Karan, is a member of the National Planning Commission, responsible for the drafting of the NDP. A Question and Answer session followed each presentation, and then again at the very end with all the presenting lecturers. The Deputy Minister of Treasury, Mr Mcebisi Jonas, was in the audience, and presented the government view and answered questions from both the audience and the academics.
