February 2019 saw our return to Nkantolo for another distribution of sanitary towels to the girl learners at four schools in Nkantolo. This was the second visit in our partnership with Aspen Pharmacare, and our fourth in our partnership with the Imbumba Foundation’s Caring4Girls Initiative.
The CEO of Imbumba Foundation, Mr Richard Mabaso, acted as the day’s programme director. Very adept in this role, he provided a wireless speaker and the girls at all the schools welcomed the addition of music to the day’s festivities.
We began with Marelane School. The largest of our adopted schools, we handed out a 6-month supply to 678 girls. The Mayor of the Mbizana Local Municipality, Cllr Daniswa Mafumbatha, and Ward Councillor Maqaza joined us on the day and shared encouraging words with the learners.
Following on from Marelane, we handed out sanitary towels to 541 girls at the Oliver Tambo Technical High School, Kantolo Junior Secondary School and Qobo Junior Secondary School. We ended the day with a visit to Qobo Clinic, which services many young women in the area.
All in all, the handover was very successful with 1219 girls and 181 young women receiving a 6-month supply of sanitary towels, totalling 8 400 packets!
