Sanitary Towel Initiative – 30 May 2017

About This Project

The Foundation partnered with the Imbumba Foundation and their “Caring 4 Girls” initiative to bring a supply of sanitary pads to school girls in Nkantolo – the birthplace of Oliver Tambo.

On Tuesday, 30 May, Natasha flew to Mbizana, and, along with Ndumo and Siyabonga from Imbumba, delivered a 6-month supply of pads to 473 girls at Qobo Junior Secondary School, Kantolo Junior Secondary School, and Oliver Tambo Technical High School. Each school girl received a pack with a 6-month supply of pads, an information booklet and a feminine hygiene talk. The day was filled with laughter and dancing, and the girls didn’t hesitate to ask pertinent questions about menstruation. As the Principal of Kantolo JSS emphasised, “Education is three-fold: parents, teachers and learners, and it’s up to all to help these young girls stay in school and be the best they can be.”

We return in December to hand over the next 6-month supply.
